reminisces….

” It was a freezing cold saturday morning in january , I can still remember it well after all these years.
I was 15 and playing for East Northumberland schoolboys - the ground was like concrete.
After the game this little man came to me and said he had been talking to me mum and dad and would I like to come play for Manchester United in the summer when I left school. I didnt need a trial, he had seen enough he said.
It was their chief scout Joe Armstrong who had spoken to me.
It was our brother Jack’s headmaster that had written to Manchester and asked them to come see me play.
I immediately said yes , I never thought twice
All I ever wanted to be was a footballer “
